Another place worth visiting when you’re in Miami is the Versace Mansion. This mansion was the former house of the late fashion designer, Gianni Versace. It is located in Miami beach. In 1992, Versace fell in love with Miami and saw a bronze statue of Greek goddess Aphrodite in front of the property, then he decided to purchase it for around 2 Million dollars. Ironically, this was also the place where he was murdered back in 1997. Since then the place was converted into a hotel and a restaurant.
The mansion really looks beautiful even just from the outside. It had a very Mediterranean feel to it which I love. When I entered the property I felt like I was in the house of Abuela from the movie Encanto. It had a very old Spanish feel to it. You have the option to dine inside or by the pool area. Of course, I chose the pool area. The view was very nice and looked very chic. But eventually I got tired of it since all I saw was the pool area.
Not let’s go to the food. I already had some expectations with regard to their food thanks to the youtube videos I watched before the trip. It was mainly mixed reviews. Some thought the food was okay and expensive. Some it was great. I already knew that the food was expensive, and true enough it was when I opened the menu. But of course, it’s an upscale restaurant, so what do you expect?
It’s a set menu. You have a choice of one appetizer, an entree, and a dessert for 34 USD. For my appetizer, I went for salad, for my entree I chose Chicken a la Rotiserrie, and for dessert I went for Daily chef’s special which happened to be a chocolate cake that time. Overall, I think the food was delicious and price was reasonable.
The restaurant is open for Lunch on Mondays to Sundays 11 am to 3:30 pm and for dinner at 5:00 to 10:30 pm. You need to make a reservation to get a table. It gets pretty jampacked so better reserve a head of time. They don’t have strict dress code but since it’s an upscale restaurant, I went for a simple black dress and clean high heels.
So, is Versace Mansion overrated? I think that really depends on the person. But to me, it’s not! I love the place, the ambiance, and the food.
